Tim De Maeseneer
Tenor Horn, Belgium
Tim is Professor of Saxhorn (Band instruments) at the prestigious Leuven University College of Arts (LUCA) campus Lemmensinstituut. He is soloist in residence with Brassband Willebroek and an ambassador and performing artist for Besson Musical Instruments.
As guest soloist Tim performs regularly with different orchestras around the globe and has been teaching brass and saxhorns instruments at the Academy of Music, Drama and Dance in Ghent since 2008.
Born in Belgium to a family of music enthusiasts, Tim started to play the tenor-horn at the age of six. From the age of fourteen, Tim studied in the secondary school of music Leuven – Lemmensinstituut and Kunsthumaniora in Brussels.
After fulfilling his secondary studies under the expert guidance of Frans Violet, Tim moved to the Gent Conservatoire where he studied two years with trumpet virtuoso Benny Wiame and later returned to Leuven to study at the Leuven University & College of Arts under saxhorn specialist Nick Ost where he graduated CUM LAUDE in 2014. (A special mention here to Tim’s mentor and teacher Johan De Win, who always supported and taught Tim with the upmost care).
In 2019 Tim obtained a second Masters degree in band conducting also with highest distinction and recorded the first Belgian solo album for tenor horn and brass band ‘The Birth of Time Echoes’; his playing was described by 4barsrest as ‘commanding the attention with an informed perspective of a storyteller’s skill for subtle phrasing, shaded tonal texture and adroit sensitivity.’
Tim, who currently plays an Owen Farr Signature 3 Alliance mouthpiece, has joined us as a new Alliance Artist, and says ‘it will be wonderful to promote Alliance, I look forward to learning and developing new mouthpieces with the team!’. We look forward to sharing his knowledge, passion and expertise.
