A brilliant symphonic CD featuring the new work for euphonium
Alliance artist David Childs has released his second ‘Symphonic Euphonium’ CD featuring concertos by Edward Gregson, Michael Ball and Paul Mealor, as well as the first euphonium recording of the Ralph Vaughan Williams F Minor Tuba Concerto.
Originally written in 1954 for the London Symphony Orchestra and performed by Philip Catelinet, the principal tuba of the orchestra, this is the first recording of the Vaughan Williams on euphonium. The work has been transposed up a fourth to the key of B flat minor to suit the range of the euphonium.
David is accompanied by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra directed by their Principal Guest Conductor, the brilliant Ben Gernon, who was a first-study tuba player before taking up conducting.
The Edward Gregson, Paul Mealor and Michael Ball Concertos are all premiere recordings. David is already regarded as perhaps the finest euphonium player in the world, and this recording will spread his reputation even further.
